Escape Grid is a free unblock puzzle game. Each level gives you a 6×6 board with a target block and a set of blocking pieces. Your job is to slide the blockers aside and clear a lane so the target block can slide out through its exit. It is the classic unblock puzzle idea — sometimes called a sliding block or Rush Hour puzzle — rebuilt for modern browsers, with 160 hand-designed levels, no download and no timer.
What an unblock puzzle is
An unblock puzzle is a spatial reasoning game where you can only move pieces straight along their own axis, and the goal is never to assemble anything — it is to remove the obstacle. The target block is already where it needs to be; what stands between it and the exit is the arrangement of the other pieces. Solving the puzzle means finding the order in which to shift those blockers so the lane opens. Nothing is random, and every Escape Grid level is verified solvable by a computer before it reaches you.
How you unblock the target piece
Pieces only slide the way they are oriented: horizontal pieces travel left and right, vertical pieces travel up and down, and nothing ever rotates or jumps. To free the target block you usually have to move pieces that look unrelated to it first — the piece blocking the exit is often blocked itself, and the piece blocking that one is blocked too. Following that chain backwards, from the exit to the first piece you can actually move, is the core skill an unblock puzzle teaches.
Why Escape Grid is an unblock puzzle
Every level has exactly one highlighted target block and one exit cut into the board border on the same row or column. When the lane is clear, the target block slides out and the level completes. Later levels add walls, locked blocks that need a matching key, and ice tiles that send a piece sliding until something stops it — but the unblock puzzle at the heart of it never changes: find the blocking chain, break it open, escape the grid.
Free to play, no download
Escape Grid runs entirely in your browser, so there is nothing to install. On a phone or tablet, press a block and drag it where you want it to go; the piece snaps to the furthest legal cell, so short flicks are enough. On a desktop you can click a block and use the arrow keys, which is the fastest way to play once you know a solution and want to chase the shortest move count. Level 1 takes about a minute and needs no account.
