Escape Grid level 10: Traffic

Traffic is the first board where the piece blocking your exit is itself blocked. It introduces the single most important habit in the game: working backwards along the chain.

Mechanics in play: Basic sliding, Vertical blockers, Two-deep chains. This guide explains what the board tests and which piece to look at first — it does not list the move sequence. Use the in-game hint if you want the next optimal move revealed.

The blocker is blocked

Find the piece in the exit lane and try to move it in your head. On this board it will not go — something is sitting where it needs to travel. That second piece is your actual first move. Almost every level from here on is built on this idea, and players who stall in the twenties are usually still trying to move the piece nearest the exit.

Follow the chain to its end

Name the pieces out loud if it helps: the target is blocked by A, A is blocked by B, B has room. Move B, then A, then the target. Five pieces is few enough to hold the whole chain in your head, which is why this teaching board comes at level 10 rather than level 40.

Resist the forward push

There is a tempting move that slides the red block one cell toward the exit early. It costs you the cell a blocker needs and turns a five-move solution into a reset. Moving the target first is almost never right.

Getting three stars

Par is five. If you took seven or eight, it was almost certainly two wasted moves nudging the target before the lane was clear.
