Escape Grid level 160: Final Link

Final Link is the last of the 160 levels and the boss board of the Chain Grid. Chained blocks move together, so the board takes away the assumption every earlier level let you keep: that you can move one piece at a time.

Chained pieces are one piece

Treat a chained pair as a single object with a single set of legal moves. The mistake that ends most attempts is planning a move for one half and discovering the other half has nowhere to go. Work out the combined legal moves for each chain on the board before planning anything, and you will find there are very few.

Ten pieces, four walls, almost no slack

This is the fullest board in the game. With this little free space, the order of moves is nearly forced — which is good news, because it means the board can be reasoned out rather than searched. Find the piece with exactly one legal move and start the chain there; on a board this tight that piece is almost always the true first move.

Where to go after it

Finishing 160 is the end of the Classic list, not the end of the game. The Daily Challenge gives everyone the same fresh board each day, Rush asks how many boards you can clear in sixty seconds, and Endless keeps escalating until you miss. Most players who finish Classic settle into the Daily.

Getting three stars

Par is twelve. A first clear of the final board in any move count is worth having; the three-star run usually comes after you have seen the board once.
